Long time friends and collaborators Y+N (MX/CA) & ULTRAKNIFE (MX) join forces to work remotely on a live generated techno visual set.
Working from different parts of the globe, ULTRAKNIFE (Name not revealed) and Y+N (Alberto Ramirez) took this quarantine to develop a visual language for the dystopian and solid left-wing techno that ULTRAKNIFE has been working on since 2018.
Alberto Ramirez is a Mexican audiovisual artist working at Moment Factory (Montreal), an industry-leading live visual entertainment company. For the last four years, he has travelled the world sharing his passion with thousands of people.
For the first time he took a break to work on his own visual language, through NOTCH FX realtime content creation software.
Ultraknife, a masked character that took the Mexican Techno scene by surprise with powerful liver modular techno sets, in the well-established parties under The Forgotten platform. Ultraknife has opened acts for many solid names in the industry like Headless Horseman, Makaton, Rrose and Luis Flores, among others.
With clever usage of in-house technology Y+N can react and perform with all the data sent from Ultraknife’s modular mayhem. A truly modern take to our new world where live sets are now behind screens.
Visual Sword is a significant technological step for the duo. Still, with experience working on industry-leading creative companies, both took all their knowledge to tackle this and found an ecosystem to real time collaboration under the Notch VFX platform.
Inspired and ignited by the dichotomy of “passion vs profession” in the millennial generation, an alter-ego got born in the subconscious of the multimedia artist Alberto Ramirez as a coping mechanism, enabling him to express a deeper voice in form of immersive audiovisual experiences.
Ultraknife’s studio (UK) is based in Mexico City while Y+N media-playback station it’s running all the Real-time generated content in Montreal, feeding back the visuals to UK’s studio. Y+N and UK communicate thru midi signals over VPN to control the session in NOTCH software.
